This article recalls that seldom remembered day in February of 1933 when Giuseppe Zangara (1900 – 1933, pictured above) wildly fired fifteen bullets into a Florida crowd in an attempt to murder President-Elect Franklin Roosevelt:

“As a working newspaper reporter, I was standing less than ten feet from the automobile in which Roosevelt was sitting. While FDR escaped unscathed, those 15 seconds of terror saw Mayor Anton J. Cermak of Chicago crumple almost at my feet with a bullet in his right lung…”
