The Great Britain of the 1920s keenly felt the distinct absence of two million men as a result of the World War I. This short article points out clearly that this was fertile ground for suffrage advancements, as well as any number of other social changes.

“England is the great human laboratory of our generation – England with her surplus of two million women, her restless, well-equipped, unsatisfied women”.


Deprived of their traditional roles in society, these women reinvented themselves into something better and campaigned to create a better world.
