One of the few manufacturing communities that the Confederacy relied upon to keep their armies in the field was Columbus, Georgia, for it was:
“Here Louis Haiman & Bros. were engaged in making swords for the cavalry, also revolvers, harness for teams and artillery horses, besides accoutrement for the infantry. Greenwood and Gray manufactured rifles and swords. The Naval Iron Works, as well as the Arsenal made brass cannon and many other useful articles needed by the army.”
Uniforms, footwear and leather belting was also a product of that town.
