When asked during his brief tenure at Washington College which Civil War general showed the greatest capacity for military genius during the recently concluded War Between the States, Robert E. Lee (1807 – 1870) lost no time in naming rebel General Nathan Bedford Forrest (1821 – 1877) as the commander who best fit that description.
