Another in a long line of articles from the Twenties in which the male dominated magazine and newspaper establishment attempt to define the flapper. This article begins with the belief that since the gurus of the 1920s fashion fraternity had ordained that the skirt hem must drop, then it only stands to reason that the flappers will all pack-up and move on; but then the essay picks up steam with a number of interesting interviews which point out that the concerns of young women were far larger than the issue of fashion.
“There is nothing secretive about the modern girl. The planks in her platform are frankness, common sense and comfort. She refuses to wear uncomfortable clothes because her grandmother considers them ladylike. When conventions interfere with comfort, conventions must go.”
