It seemed that the well-oiled publicity machine of French fashion designer Paul Poiret was in fine form when his flacks extended an invitation to the Paris-based correspondent from American VOGUE to attend a grand party held at the house of the famed styliste. They saw to it that the scribe was well-lubricated and plopped her comfortably right on the fifty-yard line in order that she might be better able to report to her handlers back in New York that “Paris was back”.

Poiret was proving it to one and all by hosting a number of swelligant theme-parties throughout the summer of 1919.

The correspondent who felt otherwise and was not invited was the fashion journalist from FLAPPER MAGAZINE; American flappers did not approve of Poiret one bit. Click here to read what they thought of him.
