Football legend Sol Metzger (1880 – 1932) gave praise in one of his weekly columns from 1930 to the Dartmouth football team for a surprising play they deployed in their contest against Harvard a year earlier. This well-coordinated team effort was one of any number of crafty ruses Dartmouth coach Jack Cannell’s players brought into play that day in order to make the Harvard boys mope off the field, suffering the public humiliation of a game lost 34 to 7.
