– and if the West was to gain the upper hand in the Cold War, it needed to adhere to many of the developing nation’s wishes. Recognizing that the good will of these nations needed to be secured if the U.S. was to have the upper hand at the U.N., the Americans re-wrote their immigration laws and began admitting citizens from the developing world.
