The Truman Doctrine of Soviet Containment was a policy set forth by U.S. President Harry S. Truman on March 12, 1947. It declared that the United States would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid in order to prevent their falling into the Soviet sphere of influence.
“The Truman Doctrine is the only road to lasting peace. Twice within 30 years the stubbornly-observed practice of ‘minding our business’ has brought war.”
