Posted on the right is an assortment of opinions shared by various German soldiers who were all interviewed by the the U.S. Army Intelligence Section shortly after the war. Each of the interviewees recalled the seemingly senseless and unpredictable aggressiveness shared by the American units they had the misfortune to encounter:
“This division fought against U.S. troops in the Flanders sector near the close of the war. The Germans have nothing but words of praise for the manner in which American soldiers fight, admiring their nerve and courage. Their way of advance greatly disheartened the Germans… Towards the last stages of the war there was great disorder among the German soldiers and they hailed with great delight the signing of the Armistice.”
