Here is one of the more touching letters compiled in the the book True Stories of the Great War (1918)
included these two letters that are attached on the right. A British soldier, heartily sickened by war, addressed a letter to the mother of the German pilot he had killed and begged for her forgiveness. The mother wrote back and her response was highly unpredictable.
This exchange was first published in a Geneva newspaper.
