The attached 1915 article originally appeared in the Tageblatt and the dispatch, written by Bernhard Kellerman (1879 – 1951), was later translated and printed in the Current History the Sunday supplement The N.Y. Times. Kellerman reported on the hardships and morale of German infantry serving in Flanders.
“The soldier stands at his post, fearless, faithful, and noble, so long as the needs of his Fatherland demand it — until he falls.”
