The Bay of Pigs invasion force was made up of five infantry battalions, one battalion of paratroopers and 12 rusty B-26 bombers – all launched from Guatemala and Nicaragua and designed to look as though it had been funded and dreamed-up entirely by the Cuban exile community in Miami. This was only partially true; it was also one of the worst ideas to come out of Langly, Virginia. Castro and Co. knew all about it because no one was able to keep the secret. This well-illustrated article from 1962 tells the story.
